Like toners, eye cream is one of those steps that raise controversy in the beauty world. Do we need a special product to apply to the eye area, or is it an unnecessary but nice step in a daily skin care regimen? Would your face serum or moisturiser work just fine around the eyes?
Our camp believes that it’s important to use a product that’s formulated for the skin around your eyes because this area is thinner and often more delicate than the rest of your face. If your eye cream is too lightweight the under-eyes are left dry and if the eye cream is too rich you may be left with a greasy ring of unabsorbed product.
Eye creams may be formulated with some of the same active ingredients as moisturisers or anti-aging products, like retinol creams, but they’re made with lower doses or aren’t as potent. This is because the thin skin around the eyes absorbs the cream better than the thicker skin on other areas of the face. Additionally, a high concentration of active ingredients could be too strong for the eye area and cause irritation.
So, in summary, eye creams are specially formulated moisturisers that are meant to be used on a specific area of skin and are, in our opinion, a must-have and worth it.
